The Vision
Our vision is to make youth violence history. We want to empower people to become part of the solution to the ongoing problem of youth violence.
Last year 28 teenagers were killed in violent incidents in London.
Build capacity in the voluntary sector
ENOUGH! believes it's not the time to start any new projects. There are already so many good organisations in London who are busy engaging young people in posititve and constructive activities. Rather, it is these existing but largely under resourced projects who need more volunteers and the finance to manage them. Our communities would greatly benefit through increaing the capacity of these organisations.
Ensure youth violence remains on the Government's agenda when it stops being sensational
Government action must not be simply reactionary to media pressure. The Government must lay solid infrastructual support networks for the youth voluntary sector.
Ensure the Government releases funding for grassroots organisations
Too many grassroots organisations are limited by a lack of consistent funding. Given the current economic climate, it is essential that youth violence does not slip off the Government's financial agenda. ENOUGH! will lobby for specific funds, such as those being made available by the Dormant Bank and Building Society Accounts Act, as well as campaining for a general increase in Government funding and seeking financial support from the private sector.
Promote a positive perception of young people
Young people are not fairly represented in the Media. 1 in 3 articles about young people mention crime. 71% of articles about young people are negative. ENOUGH! believes that the majority of young people represent the solution, not the problem.
